Nashville Road Trip Recap

Hey y’all! HAPPY Monday…just kidding! I’m here today to share the first post in a line of a few about my trip to Nashville last weekend! I can’t wait to tell you ALL about it. I met up with my bestie, Ricci, in Little Rock and we headed to see our other bestie, Jenn, who lives in Nashville. It was just about the perfect road trip length…not too long (about 6 hours).

Jenn had to work a half day on Friday, so Ricci & I left SUPER early from Arkansas and went straight to the nail salon in Nashville. Jenn had recommended the Nail Bar & believe me, it did not disappoint! This was the most chic nail salon I had ever set foot in:

After that, we headed to Jenn’s apartment in the Gulch! The Gulch is a super cute neighborhood that has everything you could ever want: restaurants, a salon, a pharmacy, and much more. That first afternoon, we decided to head out and start our sightseeing. We had booked a 2-day trolley pass that had several stops along the way…I am writing an entire blog post on this with LOTS of details, so stay tuned. We got on the trolley and rode around seeing locations that we knew we wanted to explore more in-depth.

That first night, we had reservations at Puckett’s Grocery for dinner. Reservations here are a MUST. Be sure to call ahead, because the wait was over 1.5 hours if we hadn’t had reservations.

After dinner, we headed out on the nighttime trolley ride. This was really cool, because we got to see the sights all lit up in bright colors. It was fun to see a “different” side of Nashville without the sun bearing down.

We got up pretty early the next morning to grab a spot in line at Biscuit Love. We actually arrived around 7:30am, and there were already people waiting. This place is famous, y’all. BE SURE to arrive early to start waiting in line for the best bonuts (biscuit donuts) you’ve ever tried in your life!

We then headed to the Blowout Co. for blowouts! If you know us, you can usually find us at a DryBar or a salon at some point on our trips together. We love to get our hair done. Granted, it was super hot & humid, so we opted for ponytails! Right after our blowouts, we stopped by the Wing Wall in the Gulch for pictures! (our trolley had a stop in the Gulch, so it was SUPER convenient)

After this, we again jumped on the trolley to take us back to the locations we knew we wanted to check out! We stopped at the Parthenon first! Ricci was ALL about seeing the Parthenon, and it didn’t disappoint. The huge Athena statue was super cool to see!

We then headed to our tour (included in our trolley passes) at the Ryman Auditorium! Talk about history…the Grand Ole Opry had performed here several years ago. It was great to see that the pews still exist, much like a church today.

Jenn had told us about a cool neighborhood, 12th Ave. South, so we decided to head there next. We visited Draper James (Reese Witherspoon’s store), got some ice cream at Jeni’s, and got some cupcakes (for later) at Sprinkles. We also snapped a few pictures outside at the “I believe in Nashville” wall!

That night, we went to Green Hills to shop at Nordstrom. If you know me, you know I love Nordstrom. Sadly, Arkansas doesn’t have this store, so I have to visit it in person whenever I can in bigger cities. We then grabbed a super late dinner (around 10pm) at Hattie B’s Hot Chicken. Again, the wait was LONG here…even at 10pm. We probably waited 30-45 minutes. They don’t accept reservations, so maybe try it at a weird time…early morning or afternoon.

The next morning (after the fire alarm debacle at 5am), we ate brunch at Adele’s before saying goodbye to Jenn and heading back to Arkansas.

I am the LUCKIEST girl to have the BEST friends in the whole world. Who knew that blogging would bring these girls into my life and I would be able to travel with them? SO thankful for you Ricci + Jenn!

New Orleans Trip Recap: Overview

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. Today is exciting, because this post is the first post recapping my graduation trip to New Orleans! The line-up:

Tuesday: Overview of the Trip

NOLA, new orleans, road trip

So for today’s post, I wanted to share the overall trip details. I will mix in a few pictures as I go. My dad came home to visit from China for my pharmacy school graduation, so we decided to take a trip to New Orleans. We drove from Arkansas, and it took around 8 hours.

We stayed in New Orleans for 4 nights which was just about the perfect amount of time to see New Orleans. Note: New Orleans is HOT. Just prepare by packing some extra changes of clothes. Also, if you have naturally curly hair like me…don’t plan on straightening it. ;)

We stayed in the French Quarter, which I highly recommend. This will put you right in the middle of the hustle & bustle of New Orleans. Parking is quite expensive (and can be hard to find), so I would suggest planning on walking most of the time.

Getting around seemed pretty simple by using Google Maps. I’m not the best at directions, but my phone really helped me get where I was going. Since we went during the week, it was pretty calm and not too packed. I was told by multiple people though that the weekends get crazy. I have no doubt about that!

I loved that everything was so “French”. It truly felt like I was in Europe for most of the time. I loved the one way streets and bright houses/buildings in the French Quarter. I also loved looking at the cool street names like “Dauphine”.

New Orleans is full of history. From the architecture to the music, there is something for everyone in New Orleans. If you follow me on any form of social media, you know I’m pretty obsessed with the weather. I was very interested to drive down through the ninth ward to see where Hurricane Katrina came ashore in 2005. It has been rebuilt for the most part, but I was able to see why the hurricane was so devastating.

Also, I’m having a blog relaunch giveaway here. GOOD LUCK!

Dallas Weekend Recap!

Happy Tuesday y’all! I just got back from Dallas this last weekend & I wanted to recap the trip for you. My BFF, Ricci, and I decided we needed to get out of town. You know, one of those times when you just need to get away from it all? Yeah…that.

I had texted her probably like a month ago and said, “I need this chair at IKEA!” She quickly replied, “Okay, let’s plan a Dallas trip.” If you live anywhere in Arkansas, you will quickly learn that there is ZERO good shopping here. The closest is definitely Dallas, and it doesn’t hurt that it happens to be my favorite city in the whole world. (if you’ve been reading here, you know that!)

*I severely failed in the picture taking area this trip…just try to follow along ;)*

We discussed where we would stay for a while based on what we wanted to do in Dallas. Since IKEA was the whole reason for this trip, we decided to stay at the Westin Stonebriar in Frisco. OKAY, best decision ever. I have stayed here a few times before, and it never disappoints! Our room was HUGE and super comfortable. It was also amazing to have a sliding door that we could open each morning & let the fresh air in! I highly recommend this hotel!!!

When we first arrived around 9pm on Friday night, we of course hit up the Cheesecake Factory at Stonebriar Centre. We are total basic white girls and we are not ashamed of it at all! I got the cherry cheesecake which is completely different than my usual turtle. I liked it because it wasn’t as rich as the turtle. The cherry made it pretty tart!

After an amazing night’s sleep, we got up the next morning & headed for the Dry Bar at Northpark. First of all, I love blowouts. If you’ve never had a blowout at the Dry Bar, go ahead and put it at the top of your list right now.

When you go to the Dry Bar, you can choose from a menu of various hairstyles. I chose the “Cosmopolitan” per the usual. I seriously always feel sorry for my stylist, because I have SO much hair and it’s super tangly. She was a trooper though & I loved the result! I also picked up two products that I hadn’t tried: “Southern Belle” volumizing mousse & the NEW “Mr. Incredible” leave-in conditioner. I haven’t used the mousse yet, but I will tomorrow, because it will be raining! The leave-in conditioner totally helped me be able to brush out my tangles better…just be sure to only spray on the ends and not on the roots! No one likes greasy hair ;)

After that, we headed out into the mall to get our shop on. Let’s all be honest…that was the entire purpose of this trip in the first place. Because Dillard’s has a monopoly on Arkansas, we have no access to Nordstrom except online. I’m totally not complaining, but there’s something about an actual store that gets my little shopping heart all excited.

We did some major damage at the MAC counter. We had the most fabulous makeup artist, Aubrey, who taught us some fab contouring tips. I’m going to recap all of my beauty products I got later in the week, so stay tuned.

After shopping, we might have possibly gone back to the hotel to take a nap…OOPS. We are pretty much old at this point, so we needed our beauty sleep. Saturday night, we decided to head to Studio Movie Grill & see the new movie How To Be Single. Ricci had already seen it, but I think she felt it was her duty to go with me because I really wanted to see it! STOP EVERYTHING…this was the best movie I have seen in a while. Rebel Wilson is hilarious and I loved that it had several different story lines. I’m totally buying this when it comes out.

Super casual outfit details: Red tank, Torrid // Necklace, Kendra Scott // Wristlet, Henri Bendel // Leopard Flats, old (similar)

*Insert rant here* I get a little bit tired of people thinking that because I am single must mean that I’m unhappy. This could not be further from the truth. I have been in college for YEARS now, and I have no desire to be in a relationship at this point. But guess what? That doesn’t mean I am lonely or sad at all. I have the BEST friends in the entire world. I also have more than enough work to keep me occupied as I am about to graduate pharmacy school. Moral of this story? I am HAPPY with my life just like it is :) *END RANT*

After the movies we headed back to the hotel and got a good night’s sleep. Sunday, we headed to IKEA! Finally, right? I had been wanting the Tobias chair, so I picked it up plus a couple of other items. When I finally get around to putting it together, I will show you on Instagram! We grabbed some Mi Cocina (my fave) on the way out of town.

Now that I look at this post, I want to apologize for the lack of pictures! BUT HELLO, we were having way too much fun. Oh by the way, I’ve succumb to the peer pressure & I’m now on snapchat (rebekaheliz) SO ADD ME! Also be sure to check out Ricci’s trip recap HERE, because I’m sure I missed something.

SERIOUSLY, had an amazing weekend shopping and getting away from all of the drama in Arkansas! What are your favorite places to go on road trips with your BFF?
