Happy Monday! I’m finally (sadly) back into the swing of work after being off for a few days during my California trip. It was a must needed (surprise) trip! If you don’t follow me on social media, I WON tickets to the Snow Patrol concert in Hollywood. I had been dying to go, but I wasn’t able to because of work. Thankfully, when I won the tickets, my boss was able to cover work for when I was gone. I quickly booked a plane ticket, rental car, and hotel stays! I thought I would recap what I did each day (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) and write a blog post on each one. Today I wanted to share my day 1 details of what I did in Hollywood.

Since I’m from a tiny town in Arkansas, I have to drive to an airport. I usually fly out of Springfield, Missouri and almost always have a connection through Dallas. I am a loyal traveler of American Airlines! I find the flights to be on time and easy to make.

I got up super early and left Springfield at 6am. I flew through Dallas and got to LA around 11am. I booked a rental car through Enterprise, because I got an amazing deal on an SUV. I wanted a car that was similar to mine, because I (thought) knew that LA traffic was going to insane…little did I really know what it was like.

I headed straight to Bellacures for a mani/pedi then DryBar for a blowout. It was so awesome to wake up and not have to worry about how my hair looked for the concert because I knew DryBar would hook me up! After my blowout, I checked in to the Kimpton Everly hotel. The concert was at the Fonda Theatre, and the Kimpton was super close within walking distance.

Did I mention that my room had an amazing view of both the Hollywood sign AND the Griffith Observatory? I highly recommend this hotel for its convenience to all things Hollywood! It’s clean, modern, new, and the beds are super comfy!

I decided to go ahead and get ready for the concert, so I put on my makeup and headed out to Hollywood Blvd. There was a Shake Shack across from the theatre, so I had dinner there. I had only ever eaten SS in Dallas, so I was happy.

This concert was unlike any other one I had ever been to. Not only was I finally getting to see Snow Patrol in person, but it was a standing room only concert. I have only ever been to HUGE event venues like stadiums, so this was an awesome experience. The venue only holds 1,200 people so it was definitely a more intimate setting.

If you didn’t know, I’ve had a huge crush on Gary for years. His voice is dreamy y’all! And yes, they were the ones who sang “Chasing Cars” on THAT episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Don’t worry though, they have way more songs than just that. Their new album comes out on May 25th after taking a 7 year break. The new songs they played are so good!

It was a long day but an amazing day! I finally got to see my favorite band play in a new city and state that I had never visited before. Be sure to check back soon for day 2 of my California adventure ;)

Happy Wednesday y’all. I know it’s been a while! Life has been so busy. I was lucky enough to have last weekend off and as you may remember, we were supposed to go to Chicago for a BFF weekend! Well…pretty much a blizzard happened. Jenn, Ricci, and I were frantically trying to figure out what to do. Since we are from different parts of the country, it didn’t end up working out for all of us to change our flight. However, my bloggy BFF Ricci and I were able to get our flights changed to SEATTLE! That’s right, home of Grey’s Anatomy AND Fifty Shades, we got to visit a new state and a whole new part of the US. Here’s my weekend getaway recap.

Where We Stayed

I only had about 24 hours to choose a hotel, and I have to admit I think I did a great job. We knew where most of our activities were going to be, so we chose to stay at The Thompson in downtown Seattle near Pike Place Market.

Also, there’s a really cool place to relax on the rooftop. Be sure to check out the amazing views of downtown!

Where We Ate

Remember in Sleepless in Seattle when Tom Hanks is sitting on a bar stool getting advice? That’s right, we had our first lunch at this very location, The Athenian, in Pike Place Market.

We had some of the BEST pizza I’ve ever tasted from Pagliacci Pizza. I recommend the Caesar Salad, too. If you know me, you know I had to find some Mexican food in Seattle. We had some yummy chips & salsa at Mexico Cantina while shopping.

Where We Played Tourist

We kept hearing many people talk about the underground tours around Seattle. We decided to try out the tour in Pioneer Square. WOW…I never knew there was so much interesting history about Seattle. Long story short, they had pipes made out of wood that caused the entire city to be filled with sewage which caused toilets to often explode. The city was actually built a story up on top of the existing city (after the big fire which wiped out town in 1889) which created today’s underground tour location! Do yourself a favor and google the history…it’ll blow your mind!

We saw the prettiest mural outside of Casco Antiguo. The bright colors give me life!

If you are visiting Pike Place Market, we got to see the Gum Wall. That’s right…it’s an entire wall covered in chewed gum. While some may find it gross, I find it totally Seattle.

We then got to experience the very FIRST Starbucks in the Pike Place Market. I got to try out the new Cherry Mocha while being totally basic and visiting this epic landmark!

SPACE.NEEDLE. Pretty much enough said, right? It’s the most iconic building in Seattle, and it gave me all kinds of feels. You know, like the intro to Grey’s and the skyline on Fifty Shades. We went all the way to the top. Even though there was a lot of construction going on, it was beautiful to look out across the Puget Sound and see the incredible Mt. Rainier.

The Columbia Center also has a sky deck with amazing views. We headed to the 73rd floor to look out across Seattle at dark. One of my favorite parts? Seeing the Ferris Wheel in all its lighted glory.

Where We Shopped

I know that Nordstrom probably isn’t exciting to most of you, but we don’t have Nordstrom in Arkansas. Every time I get the chance to shop it, I jump at it! I (of course) bought a couple of pair of shoes. I snagged these tennies and these Birkenstocks. It’s always a good time to stock up on beauty products when visiting Nordy’s. I will share all of my purchases with you soon ;) Did you know that Nordstrom was founded in Seattle?!

We also HAD to get blowouts because it’s become somewhat of a tradition. I found a lovely location online and booked appointments at SWINK. I highly recommend this salon to get a fierce blowout that can even withstand the Seattle humidity!

After lots of primping and shopping, we had to see the new Fifty Shades installment. I’m not going to go into much detail here, but trust me…it’s by far the BEST one yet. GO SEE IT.

I had a BLAST on my weekend getaway. I really tried to be more “in the moment” on this trip and I think I succeeded. Have you been to Seattle?

Happy Sunday. I’m writing this post as I’m watching my beloved Dallas Cowboys play football. I love this season, because it means FOOTBALL. It also means cold weather. This can make road trips quite different when traveling in the winter. Here are my tips for bringing along the essentials for a winter road trip:

*THINK WARM: Now is not the time to be cute. Trust me, I like to dress up and look cute when I’m going out, but here you need to think smart. Be sure to have a warm pair of gloves & socks in your car. The thicker, the better. Also, grab an extra blanket and load it up in your car.

*THINK RAIN/SNOW: This won’t apply to all locations, but you need to prepare for cold rain/snow in some cases. Pack an umbrella, ice scraper, and a shovel in your car.

*THINK DARKNESS: In the case of bad roads or a breakdown, you may have to wait for help for a while. Be sure to pack a flashlight and an extra battery for your phone. AND don’t forget the phone cords!

*THINK SAFETY: A first aid kit is a must-have in any car. Be sure to change it out each year to be sure the contents are within date. Also, a swiss army knife is always good to have in your car.

As always, check and make sure you have your driver’s license, insurance card, and registration when heading out on a road trip. If you are looking for tips on all things cars & road trips, be sure to check out Cars.com. Here you will find tips on the perfect car for your family and even car seat tips to check for safety.
