Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I had to work half of Saturday, but I think I got a lot accomplished in the afternoon. I’ve got my posts written for this week, so that’s always exciting. Thank you all for your feedback on my outfit post! Stay tuned for this week’s look on Wednesday. Today I wanted to share my favorite beauty/skincare products that you can get at the drugstore. These WAY outperform their more expensive counterpart, so let’s get started!

PSSSST dry shampoo // Maybelline “The Falsies” Push-up Mascara // L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask // Garnier Micellar Water // Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliating Cleanser

Dry Shampoo: Having written about this before, I’m here to tell you (again) that you have to try this PSSSST dry shampoo. I love it for several reasons…it’s cheap, it smells great, and it works! Honestly, I go through probably two cans per month. Should I be embarrassed? Maybe. But I’m totally not! This doesn’t leave a white residue and has the most yummy coconut lime smell. It honestly transports me to the beach every single time I use it. (PS: My everyday scrunchy curls hair tutorial is here)

Mascara: I have a very specific lash problem. My lashes are super long but they are super straight. I find this kind of weird, because I have naturally curly hair. That being said, I found this Maybelline mascara and it works wonders. I apply a coat at the beginning of putting my makeup on, then apply another coat at the end. I definitely recommend this mascara if you need a curling effect. It adds volume as well!

Mask: This clay mask is very affordable, and that’s the number 1 reason I like it. It compares very similarly to a high priced department store version. It has a cooling effect that really feels good on the face, especially after getting home from a long day at work. L’Oreal has perfected its mask game with this product.

Makeup Remover: I give this Garnier micellar water 11 stars out of 10. It is the ONLY product that I’ve ever used that gets ALL of my makeup off without scrubbing my face raw. It is gentle, oil-free, alcohol free, and fragrance free. And for all of my low maintenance babes, you don’t have to rinse! WHAT A WIN.

Cleanser: Formulated without parabens, this Neutrogena exfoliating cleanser provides major hydration to even the driest skin. I love that it’s gentle enough to use everyday and it provides just enough exfoliation! The hyaluronic acid helps plump your skin.

Happy Wednesday everyone! AND happy August! Seriously summer has flown by, but you won’t find me complaining because I love fall. For the past couple of months, I’ve been focusing a lot more on my skin and trying to find products that work for me. I have finally found my perfect full coverage foundation routine, so I wanted to share that with you today.

If you’re ever on the hunt for a specific beauty product to cover a need you have, it can be overwhelming. I get it. There are an abundance of YouTube videos, beauty blogs, sales people at the makeup counter, and articles online to make you question what you were even doing in the first place.

So after I scoured several of these, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a few products that might help me achieve full coverage on my face. I thought I would share some tips that I think are helpful for this process, so let’s get started!

How To Find Your Undertones

*Look at the underneath of your wrists and determine the color of your veins

-blue/purple: Cool undertones

-green/yellow: Warm undertones

-mixture of all the above: Neutral undertones

Steps to Buying a Foundation

Step 1: Assess your needs

-powder or liquid?

-full coverage?

Step 2: Read reviews

Step 3: Narrow down to a handful of products

Step 4: Head to a beauty counter or take an educated guess online ;)

Helpful Beauty Counters (not pushy):

Nordstrom, Sephora, Ulta

Now, I’m going to show you what I have narrowed down to my favorite full coverage makeup routine. Keep in mind that I do not wear this on a daily basis, I just wear this to church, events, hanging out with friends, or when I’m not in a super big hurry (like to work every morning).

Powder // Liquid // Blender

I LOVE this blender, because the notch in the middle is helpful. The shorter end, I use damp to apply my liquid foundation. I finally settled on Estee Lauder Doublewear Liquid Foundation. I use this in the color “Desert Beige”. After this step, I use the longer end of the blender dry to apply my powder foundation. I chose Urban Decay Ultra Definition Powder in “Fair Neutral”. If you position your hand just right at the break in the blender, your fingers will stay perfectly clean without getting all dirty!

As you probably figured out from the colors I use, I have neutral undertones. I tend to wear more gold than silver, and I tan pretty easily. I do have to wear sunscreen to not get burned though, and I recommend that everyone does! I use this sunscreen under my foundation to create a barrier between my skin & the sun. Check out this post tips on how to choose a sunscreen.

I love this full coverage pair, because I have several dark spots I want to cover up. My motto growing up was that I didn’t have to wear sunscreen if I was already tan. That is just so so wrong. Please don’t be like me! I also like a blank canvas per se to really play with my eye makeup, because that’s my favorite part. It’s just easier for your makeup to look well done if you even out your skin tone first. That’s what this pair will do for you!

Now I know it may seem like overkill to wear both a liquid and powder foundation, but this is what I prefer for that full coverage look. This is not the pair of products for you if you want a “barely there” feel to your face. BUT if you’re looking for full coverage, this is definitely the pair of products for you.

Today’s post is all about an easy five minute makeup look with the best products I’ve found. I am on rotations for the next couple of months, and I usually have little to no time to get ready in the mornings. There is hardly time for me to brush my teeth, much less put on lots of makeup. (Don’t worry, I take several minutes to make sure my teeth are super clean!) I have tried many products over the years but I have narrowed it down to just the basics that work well…

Step 1: Primer, Tarte

Apply a dime sized amount all over your entire face and be sure to cover evenly. Why I love it? This primer fills in your imperfections, allows your foundation to go on evenly, and helps your makeup last all day. Did I mention it feels like silk?!

Step 2: Foundation, Clinique

I use a beauty blender to apply this foundation over my whole face. Be sure to blend well in key areas, such as jaw line, eyebrows, and around your nose. I use the color “28 Light.” This color matches my skin PERFECTLY, so I don’t have to worry about a mismatch.

Step 3: Highlighter, Clinique

These chubby sticks pretty much are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I apply highlighter in 5 key places: upper cheekbones, middle of lower lip, middle of chin, just below my eyebrows, and in the corner of my eyes closest to my nose.

How to apply? I use my finger and dab in this highlighter and then apply to the places listed above. Be sure to blend. You will see an amazing change in how much your face glows after this step.

Step 4: Contour, Clinique

The highlighting stick’s BFF: the contour. I apply this stick in two places: on the side of my nose and along my lower cheekbone.

How to apply? For your nose, right at the bridge make a skinny line down each side. Blend with a contouring brush. For your cheekbone, make a “fish face” and apply a skinny line of this stick along your cheek bone toward your ear. Blend with a contouring brush.

Step 5: Bronzer, NARS + Kabuki brush, NARS

I use the color “Laguna” which is dark enough to show contrast, but not dark enough to look like I laid in a tanning bed for hours ;)

Again, make a fish face, and apply on the apples of your cheeks with a blush brush. I guess you could say I use this bronzer as my blush. It will give you great color!

Step 6: Eye Shadow, Bobbi Brown (similar here & here) + brush, EcoTools (LOW price!)

This eye shadow palette is amaze! I use the non-shimmer taupe on the top middle row for an all over eye lid color. I will then add the dark brown on bottom left below the crease of my eye lid. Blend well and you are good to go.

Step 7: Mascara, Benefit

This mascara is my favorite for everyday use for one reason: WATERPROOF. I am not always looking for massive curl or extension for an everyday look, so I like that this mascara lasts all day and still makes my eyes pop. Don’t worry if you’re working in the humidity or you are sweating…this mascara stays put!

Step 8: Lips, YSL (“nude provocateur”) + MAC (“creme cup”)

I first apply the YSL gloss coat on my lips. About 5 seconds after you apply, you will see how it changes the feel of your lips. It’s almost like it’s locking in the moisture. I then apply a layer of MAC “creme cup” lipstick. This pink color is just enough color to keep it interesting, all while being muted enough for the workplace.

I really hope you enjoyed my five minute face routine. I promise after you practice this routine, you can probably do it in like 3 minutes.
