Happy Wednesday y’all! All of a sudden, winter is upon us. I’m a little worried about the weather forecast beacuse all I can see is cold, dry air. That means now is the ideal time to perfect your holiday skin routine. With all of the parties and events, you don’t want to have to worry about dry skin or breakouts. This is where the Michael Todd Beauty Sonic Smooth Dermaplane system comes in!

Before we get started and I share my experience, I wanted to give a little background on my history with dermaplane. I had been to a couple of sessions at my local spa as I was nervous. I had an incredible experience with this process. My skin felt healthier, was incredibly soft, and was noticeably brighter. When I saw that Michael Todd Beauty had an at-home dermaplane system, I was definitely intrigued. I read several reviews and decided to take the plunge.

What is dermaplane?

Dermaplane is essentially like shaving your face. WAIT, don’t run away just yet. This process is not meant to scare anyone away. This system gets all of the dead skin and peach fuzz off of your face. Trust me, I was shocked at how much peach fuzz I had!

Is it safe for sensitive skin?

YES, I have super sensitive skin and have had no problems so far. Just be sure to follow the instructions ;)

Does it hurt?

Not if you do it right! You have to pull your skin taut so that you won’t slip and cut your skin. It seems like an intimidating process, but don’t worry!

How often should I use the dermaplane?

I’ve been using this system once weekly. I also use an exfoliating treatment once weekly as well. My skin has never felt softer! Even though I had little hair on my face, getting rid of the peach fuzz really helped my skin look fresher and brighter. I also am in an ongoing effort to get rid of dark spots that were caused by sun damage. I talk about my sun damage/dark spots in this post and which foundations work for me.

How should I prep my skin?

This is important! Be sure to use a cleanser that gets rid of ALL of the oil from your skin. The dermaplane system will be next to useless if you don’t clean your skin first. Thankfully, the Sonic Smooth system comes with a cleanser.

How should I treat my skin after?

The lovelies at Michael Todd Beauty are so genius, because they include an after-process gel that soothes the skin nicely. Don’t worry about seeing a little redness, that’s normal! I also really like this product that I use after getting my eyebrows waxed.

Here is my fresh, clean skin after dermaplane. I am really liking the results so far, and I can’t wait to continue to get rid of my dark spots. YAY!

I’m so thankful that Michael Todd Beauty was kind enough to send me the at-home sonic smooth system to try. As always, all opinions are my own. Thanks for reading & let me know if you have any questions. XO,

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I had to work half of Saturday, but I think I got a lot accomplished in the afternoon. I’ve got my posts written for this week, so that’s always exciting. Thank you all for your feedback on my outfit post! Stay tuned for this week’s look on Wednesday. Today I wanted to share my favorite beauty/skincare products that you can get at the drugstore. These WAY outperform their more expensive counterpart, so let’s get started!

PSSSST dry shampoo // Maybelline “The Falsies” Push-up Mascara // L’Oreal Pure Clay Mask // Garnier Micellar Water // Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliating Cleanser

Dry Shampoo: Having written about this before, I’m here to tell you (again) that you have to try this PSSSST dry shampoo. I love it for several reasons…it’s cheap, it smells great, and it works! Honestly, I go through probably two cans per month. Should I be embarrassed? Maybe. But I’m totally not! This doesn’t leave a white residue and has the most yummy coconut lime smell. It honestly transports me to the beach every single time I use it. (PS: My everyday scrunchy curls hair tutorial is here)

Mascara: I have a very specific lash problem. My lashes are super long but they are super straight. I find this kind of weird, because I have naturally curly hair. That being said, I found this Maybelline mascara and it works wonders. I apply a coat at the beginning of putting my makeup on, then apply another coat at the end. I definitely recommend this mascara if you need a curling effect. It adds volume as well!

Mask: This clay mask is very affordable, and that’s the number 1 reason I like it. It compares very similarly to a high priced department store version. It has a cooling effect that really feels good on the face, especially after getting home from a long day at work. L’Oreal has perfected its mask game with this product.

Makeup Remover: I give this Garnier micellar water 11 stars out of 10. It is the ONLY product that I’ve ever used that gets ALL of my makeup off without scrubbing my face raw. It is gentle, oil-free, alcohol free, and fragrance free. And for all of my low maintenance babes, you don’t have to rinse! WHAT A WIN.

Cleanser: Formulated without parabens, this Neutrogena exfoliating cleanser provides major hydration to even the driest skin. I love that it’s gentle enough to use everyday and it provides just enough exfoliation! The hyaluronic acid helps plump your skin.

Happy Wednesday! It’s unseasonably cool around here today which a welcome change for me. As it has been getting warmer, I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s in my hair care arsenal for this summer. I’ve also been thinking about how to keep my hair strong and healthy. While these tips may not be all that groundbreaking, they have certainly helped me grow my hair out!

Three Tips for Healthy Summer Hair:

*Give your hair a break & let it air dry once in a while

*Use a heat protecting spray when blow drying, straightening, curling, or in the sun

*Use a silk pillowcase when sleeping (I have this one & it goes everywhere with me!)

I’m going to be super honest, I NEVER use a blow dryer. The only time my hair gets dried with heat is when I’m at a salon. I don’t even own a hair dryer. I only wash my hair twice a week at the most, so I will let it dry over night. Am I the worst beauty blogger ever? Maybe. However, I promise that letting your hair air dry will help it’s growth and strength immensely.

Most of us know to apply a heat protecting spray when styling, but I recommend a heat protectant spray even when going swimming or to the lake/beach. Since our hair is smack dab on the top of our head, we need to protect it like we would our skin. Think of heat protecting spray as a “sunscreen” for your hair ;)

I will be the first person to tell you that I was skeptical of silk pillowcases. I was like there is NO way that silk pillowcases can help keep my skin clear or help my hair not tangle as much, but it has really worked for me. AND talk about the coolness on the other side of the pillow! It’s great!

I thought I would share what products I use & what products I’m picking up from the Gorgeous Hair Event with Ulta that I think will help you accomplish your goal of healthy summer hair. With the exception of the Ouidad Climate Control Gel, I have used all of these products and they were good enough to make this list.

Wednesday, May 25th: 50% off Atmos-Shield Hair Protectant from Orlando Pita Play & Advanced Climate Control Gel from Ouidad

Friday, May 27th: 50% off select styling from Kenra (I love this dry texture spray!)

Monday, May 30th: 50% off Luster Lock from Joico

Thursday, June 2nd: 50% off Soy Tri-Wheat Leave in Conditioner from Healthy Sexy Hair

Friday, June 3rd: 50% off Frizz Dismiss Treatments from Redken (I love this mask!)

Remember, it’s always easier to prevent heat/sun damage before it happens! I think of it like I think of moisturization…once your skin is dry, it’s SO much harder to get the moisture back. The same way with your hair…once it gets broken and fried, it’s SO much harder to repair it.

PS I have been growing my hair out for a couple of years now. It’s finally long enough that I feel like when I get it curled, it doesn’t look like Shirley Temple ;) Check out this Instagram post to see the blowout I got recently! I highly recommend Hayley at Just Blow if you’re ever in the Little Rock area.
